BHUBANESWAR: If everything goes as planned, the office of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), which has been functioning from a 42-year-old two-storey building at Vani Vihar Square here, may get a classy look.
An addition in the staff strength over the years and creation of several new establishments for crime investigation and delivery of citizen-centric services have given rise to space shortage at the DCP office. To address the issue, the commissionerate police have sent a proposal to the government through the director general of police (DGP) to convert the office space into a multi-storey building. The office of the superintendent of police (SP), Khurda, started functioning from the same building in 1980. Upon the introduction of commissionerate police system on January 1, 2008, the DCP office began functioning from the building. “Being an old structure, the building requires regular maintenance with huge expenditure,” read the proposal from the additional commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash to the DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal on May 20.
