A massive fire has broken out at a BP refinery with two people injured as huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the sky.
Toledo Fire and Rescue rushed to the oil facility in the 4100 block of Cedar Point Road, in Oregon, Ohio, at around 6.30pm, local time, on Tuesday.
They were responding to reports of injuries and now BP have confirmed that two people have been hurt - although their condition has not been revealed.
Many people have posted footage of the massive fire at the refinery online with ferocious orange flames ripping through the facility and black clouds rising up.
The huge BP refinery in Ohio pumps 160,000 barrels of crude oil a day providing the mid-West with fuel.
While confirming the injuries, BP has also said that it has closed down the part of the refinery which has been affected by the fire.
A spokesperson told The Mirror: "We are working closely with local fire crews as we respond to an active fire at the bp Husky Toledo Refinery.
"We can confirm two people have been injured. All other staff is accounted for. The refinery has been safely shut down while the response is underway.
"Our highest priority remains the safety of our staff, the responders and the public."
The oil company said on its website over safety standards: "We believe that technology can play an increasingly effective role in reducing safety risks, and we continue to extend its use in this context across our refining operations.
"Key actions included the continuing use of drones and robotic technologies for inspections, removing the need for people to face the risks involved in carrying out inspections."
It says that the Oregon site is among its "three refineries (that) continue to provide the US with the energy that it needs safely, reliably and efficiently."
In August, Cenovus Energy Inc said it will buy the remaining 50 percent stake it does not already own in the BP-Husky Toledo Refinery.
In 2008, Husky Energy Inc formed a joint venture with BP by acquiring a 50 percent stake in the Toledo refinery. The stake then moved to Calgary-based Cenovus when it combined with Husky in 2021.
