Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson posted a cryptic tweet after Dillon Gabriel announced that he was transferring to join the Ducks on Saturday after two seasons at Oklahoma.
Thompson served as the backup to Heisman Trophy candidate and Ducks star Bo Nix, who recently finished his final season in Eugene.
Gabriel, who entered the transfer portal on Monday, visited Oregon earlier this week before committing to the Ducks. Shortly after Gabriel’s announcement, Thompson posted a picture on X (formerly known as Twitter) of himself walking toward the team’s facility with his pads as well as several Oregon helmets on the right side of the photo.

Thompson’s timely tweet suggests that he could be seeking to enter the transfer portal and take his talents elsewhere. In three seasons at Oregon, Thompson has struggled to become the program’s starting quarterback.
In 17 games, the former five-star quarterback from Arizona has completed 42-of-66 passes for 456 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. With Gabriel’s arrival in Eugene, it appears that he will once again have to battle for the starting position should he stay with the program.
Gabriel threw for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.3% of his passes while rushing for 373 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground this season with the Sooners. In his college career, one that includes three seasons at UCF, the 22-year-old has registered 14,865 yards, 125 touchdowns, 26 interceptions and completed 63.1% of his passes.
He has also rushed for 26 touchdowns on the ground and compiled a total of 1,060 rushing yards.
