An Oregon man was using his phone and eating chicken behind the wheel when he crashed his car into the bedroom of an apartment.
Around midnight on Sept. 21, police in Gresham, Oregon responded to calls reporting a Toyota Prius that had crashed into an occupied apartment bedroom on Southwest 4th Street near Birdsdale Drive.
The apartment had 7 occupants, with one in the bedroom that was crashed into, at the time of the accident. No one was injured.
KPTV reported that the driver was identified as 41-year-old Billy Holt, and he claimed he was eating chicken at the time of the crash. Officers who arrived at the scene noted that Holt showed signs of drug and alcohol impairment.
After he refused to provide law enforcement with a breath sample, a warrant for a blood sample from Holt was obtained. He was arrested for driving under the influence, reckless driving and other crimes.
He has been allowed to enroll in a diversion program in order to avoid jail time.
