Health officials in the Orlando area confirmed a locally acquired dengue infection and expanded mosquito control operations in response, the Florida Department of Health in Orange County announced Wednesday. The agency issued the notice as an update to a mosquito-borne illness advisory it had posted the previous week.
"DOH-Orange is issuing this update due to a confirmed human case of locally-acquired dengue," the department said in the advisory update. It added that the health department and Orange County Mosquito Control are coordinating surveillance and prevention by expanding coverage within affected communities, and that response measures have been enhanced through targeted treatments to reduce mosquito populations.
