Optical illusions are super fun ways to challenge your mind through images that are confusing in the sense that we may not be able to correctly interpret everything about them at first glance. This does not mean someone is less or more smart, but the design is such that most brains, and therefore most people, will fall in the illusion and fail to interpret the hidden, real meaning.
Here is another super simple-looking yet not-so-easy to crack optical illusion. What’s more, it’s suitable for age groups. Ready? This is what you have to figure out:
Can you tell which of the 2 yellow lines is longer? You just have 10 seconds to do it.
What do you see?
The image is seemingly of a railway track in black. What stands apart are two horizontal yellow lines placed in a distance. Your task is to interpret which of these lines is longer within 10 seconds. Is it the one closer to you? Or is the farther one at a distance?
Hint before you answer
Before you finalise your answer, make sure that it is an optical illusion. Therefore, what may seem obvious and simple may not be true. Now is your chance to finalise your answer.
Is your answer the top line?
If you think the top line, which looks farther also, is bigger, then your answer is...completely wrong. But don't worry, it is not just you, as most people who look at this optical illusion will choose the top line.
What's the correct answer?
The answer is that both these lines are actually of the same length. This guided image will prove that even if the two lines appear of different lengths, they are actually equal in size. As you can see, the green dotted line clearly shows that the two lines are of exactly the same length.
Why did the top one look bigger?
This is because our brain judges the size of an object based on its depth as well. This is why the brain mistakenly judges that the top line is bigger than the closer one.
Another reason we think one line is longer is that we fail to challenge the initial question that asked us to figure out which line is bigger in size. So, many people will assume that either of the two lines must be longer. The twist is that the question, too, was twisted, and many people do not think that maybe the answer lies beyond what the question exactly asks us to find and tell.
