Opposition demeaning the mandate of public: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday remarked that the claims made by Samajwadi Party president and leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav about his previous government were no more than “sweet talks” which politicians deliver in an election rally.

“I am surprised. This is an assembly where members need to speak about the ground realities,” he said, while speaking on the floor of the House during the vote of thanks to the governor. “ Nazar nahi hai. . . nazaaron ki baat karte hain. . . zameen pe chand sitaron ki baat karte hain. . . Wo hath jod kar basti ko lootne wale. . . bhari sabha mein sudharon ki baat karte hain (Those with no eyesight talk about spectacle as well as the moon and stars on the earth; those who loot people with folded hands discuss reforms in full assembly) ,” Yogi recited the couplet, amid loud applause from the treasury benches.

Adityanath said that making ungrounded claims was like “demeaning” the mandate given to a popularly elected government. “

Abhiman tab aata hai jab aapko lagta hai ki aapne kuch kiya hai. . . aur samman tab aata hai jab duniya ko lage ki aapne kuch kiya hai (Pride follows the feeling that you have accomplished something; while respect follows when the world feels the same way),” the CM said, in an apparent jibe at Akhilesh, who recently exchanged barbs with deputy CM Keshav Maurya and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna in the assembly. He asserted that the people gave “samman” (respect) to the BJP government because of its style of governance.

“We never drummed up our achievements. People know which party was doing what, who was controlling crime and bringing investments into UP,” Yogi said, maintaining that the people shrugged off all rumours and brought BJP back to power.

Observing that all previous elections in UP passed off peacefully, Yogi attacked TMC boss and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for campaigning for SP. “And what was the situation in her own state? As many as 12,000 incidents of violence occurred post assembly polls in West Bengal,” he said.

But there was no violence in UP before and after the elections. “This would not have been the case if there would not have been a BJP government here,” he said, stressing that the objective of BJP is not just to attain power but to work for the country and respect parliamentary principles and underlying emotions.

The CM said that the BJP government tried to work in different fields, including law and order effectively. Yogi claimed that conspiracies were hatched to do away with PAC battalions.

“There wouldn’t have been any curfew in Muzaffarnagar and Bareilly had there been PAC battalions,” he said.

Yogi slammed the previous governments for orchestrating job scams and playing with the lives of youth. Yogi said that Akhilesh, during his address to the assembly, should have also spoken about the Gomti river front scam. . . mining scam. . . one of their ministers is still languishing in jail. . . there was a series of scams,” he remarked. “But today, UP is leading on various fronts. Her people are getting respect in various parts of the country,” he said.

The CM also took strong exception to rumours about atrocities on farmers during the BJP rule. “But the most number of farmer suicides happened between 2004 and 2016,” he said.

Yogi praises Shivpal; ‘He isn’t just my uncle…’ says Akhilesh

CM Yogi Adityanath lauded Shivpal Yadav, the estranged uncle of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, for “distributing tablets and laptops” in his assembly seat of Jaswantnagar. Yogi made the statement in the UP assembly even as Akhilesh folded his hands and chortled.

Yogi said that other members of the UP assembly should also come forward and distribute tablets and laptops in their constituencies. Shivpal has been at the centre of a high decibel political buzz immediately after the UP polls when he was not invited by SP to the legislative party meeting.

He later showed signs of cosying up to BJP. Later while speaking in the House, Akhilesh took a potshot at Yogi observing that the CM “worried a lot” about his “chacha” (uncle).“ Abhi tak toh mere chacha they...lekin ab neta sadan bhi unhein chacha bol rahe hain (He was my uncle thus far, but now the leader of the House is also referring to him as ‘uncle’),” he said as Shivpal, who sat diagonally to Akhilesh, smiled.

If vax cert had no PM pic, I’d have been jabbed first: Akhilesh

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday came up with an explanation as to why he had termed the Covid vaccine a “BJP vaccine”. “You can see vaccine certificates issued by the US, China, Russia or any country in Europe. There is no photograph of any leader.

But in our country, a photograph (of PM Narendra Modi) has been embossed,” he said.“ Agar certificate mein tasveer nahi lagi hoti to shayad main sabse pehle vaccine lagwa leta (If the certificate had no picture (of PM), I’d have been perhaps the first one to get vaccinated),” he said. To this, speaker Satish Mahana intervened and said that the leader of the opposition can seek a clarification from the government but cannot deliver a speech.
