Cillian Murphy is in the running to be named best actor at this year’s Baftas with his nuclear bomb biopic Oppenheimer dominating the nominations.
The blockbuster has 13 nominations – the most of any film – picking up nods for best film and best director for Christopher Nolan.
Murphy’s fellow cast members, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt, are also both nominated for supporting actor and supporting actress respectively.
He faces competition from fellow Irishman Barry Keoghan, nominated for his critically-acclaimed turn in Saltburn, and Hollywood big hitter Bradley Cooper who is nominated for Maestro.
The shortlist is completed by Colman Domingo, recognised for his role in civil rights drama Rustin, Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers and Teo Yoo in Past Lives.
Cillian Murphy paid tribute to director Christopher Nolan after their film was nominated for 13 Baftas.
He said: “I couldn’t be happier that the British Academy recognised so many of my collaborators on Oppenheimer, especially Chris Nolan. Working on the film was an experience I’ll never forget.”
Cooper is also in the running to be named best director and could scoop the award for original screenplay as well for his film about the life of American composer Leonard Bernstein.
The success of Oppenheimer’s box office rival Barbie is also recognised with Margot Robbie nominated for leading actress along with Carey Mulligan in Maestro and The Color Purple’s Fantasia Barrino.
The shortlist is completed by Sandra Huller in Anatomy of a Fall, Rye Lane’s Vivian Oparah and Emma Stone for Poor Things.
Huller is also nominated for supporting actress for The Zone of Interest with competition coming from Blunt, Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, Claire Foy in All of Us Strangers, Saltburn’s Rosamund Pike and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.
Pike said it was “bliss bliss bliss” to be nominated for the best supporting actress for Saltburn.
She said: “It’s something uniquely special to be nominated for a Bafta.
“It happened once before. I thought realistically it might never happen again.
“I am proud to be nominated in this group of varied and powerful supporting actresses. And overjoyed that Jacob and Barry and our mad special film got recognition. BLISS BLISS BLISS.”
Ryan Gosling gets a nod for his role as Ken in the Barbie film with a nomination for supporting actor, along with Dominic Sessa for The Holdivers, Paul Mescal for All of Us Strangers and Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi.
The shortlist is completed by Downey Jr. and Hollywood royalty in the shape of Robert De Niro who is recognised for the Killers of the Flower Moon.
Martin Scorsese’s epic crime drama is also in the running to be named Best Film with competition coming from Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Poor Things as well as Oppenheimer.
Poor Things is also in the running for outstanding British Film with other nominees including Ridley Scott’s historical epic Napoleon, Ken Loach’s The Old Oak, Wonka and Saltburn.
BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip said the nominated films "span an extraordinary range of genres and stories".
She said: "The field this year is incredibly strong. More films were entered, making the selection process particularly tough for our voting members.
"The films and talented people nominated represent some of the most talked about films of the year, the most critically acclaimed, and films yet to be released and discovered by audiences."
The awards are being held on February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall.
