OPINION - ‘Severe disruption’ warning for Londoners ahead of tube strikes: The Leader podcast

Londoners be warned: thousands of tube station staff are going on strike on Wednesday 4th and Friday 6th October.

The disruption is expected to continue into the morning after each strike day, meaning commuters are expected to avoid the city and spend most of the week working from home.

Members of the RMT union are taking action in the long-running dispute over the axing of between 500 and 600 station jobs, as Transport for London attempts to save money.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “These job cuts and attacks on conditions are going to lead to more unstaffed stations, temporary closures and rising passenger anger.”

The Evening Standard’s City Hall Editor & Transport Editor Ross Lydall explains the ongoing saga involving underground workers, and tells The Leader podcast how intermittent strikes are impacting work culture in the capital.
