An operator is being sought to run a new market in Caerphilly built from shipping containers, as well as expressions of interest from potential tenants.
Ffos Caerffili is scheduled to open in the autumn. The first project in Caerphilly County Borough Council’s 2035 regeneration masterplan, it will provide 28 units for food and drink operators, independent shops and workspaces. It will also feature an external terrace allowing for outdoor dining, music concerts and events. It is being delivery by construction company Lancer Scott.
The Welsh Government is providing 58% of the project’s cost with a grant of £2.09m and loan of £600,000 from its Transforming Towns programme. The remainder of the funding will come from the local council and the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The chosen market operator will enter into a three-year agreement with an extension option.
Deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, James Pritchard, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of this new venture in Caerphilly – the first tangible step in the Caerphilly 2035 plan.
“Following significant early interest, we are looking forward to formally receiving expressions of interest from potential vendors and operators.”
Minister for Climate Change, Julie James, said; “ Our Transforming Towns programme continues to deliver great results. The position statement that we published earlier this year demonstrates our commitment and ambition to tackle the challenges and revitalise town centres across Wales, putting them at the heart of everything we do.”
