Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s “Operation Fight Fentanyl” program was in Martin County Thursday – the sixth stop this year. Bryan Hubbard is the chair and executive director of the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission. He said what stood out about the Martin County visit was the people in recovery who told their stories with great candor.
“There was a degree of authenticity here, that was exceptional. Now, all events have had those. But in terms of Martin County, there was a lot of just unvarnished candor, that was quite special and powerful to hear.”
Hubbard said the first goal of the town hall meetings is to show up and listen.
“And to hear them out in terms of their fight with a very deadly epidemic that has assumed a lethal dimension with the introduction of fentanyl into the state.”
Hubbard said the second objective is to bring data showing the severity of the fentanyl problem, which is taking the lives of five Kentuckians every day. The next Operation Fight Fentanyl meeting will take place next Wednesday in Hyden, in Leslie County.
