Opening of second Tramshed Tech co-working space in Newport delayed

Tramshed Tech has delayed the opening of its second site in Newport until later this year. The co-working firm opened 40 workspaces across three floors in Griffin Place near Newport Market last October, its first expansion into the city.

Tramshed Tech was established in 2016 in Cardiff and has a 10,000 sq ft workspace in the historic Tramshed building in Grangetown, and in recent years it has been expanding into other areas of Wales.

In January 2021 it announced plans to open a new hub over two floors at the old information station on Queensway, near Newport railway station. The building has been undergoing a revamp in recent years with Tramshed Tech opening its first Newport site near the newly-redevelopment market in the meantime.

Plans for the second Tramshed Tech co-working space in Newport have been in the works for some time, and it was initially planned to open in the old information station in the second quarter of 2023. However, a spokesperson for Tramshed Tech has now confirmed it anticipates the space opening in the summer or autumn. No reason for the delay was given and an exact opening date will be confirmed in due course.

Information station services in Newport have moved from the old Queensway site to Newport library, museum and art gallery on John Frost Square, which recently reopened after a revamp. The building was shut back in July 2022 to undergo work to transform it into an 'information hub' with a temporary pop-up library created at the nearby Kingsway Centre. The newly-reopened building includes new meeting rooms for residents, increased accessibility and a "brighter and more welcoming" foyer. Council leader Jane Mudd welcomed its reopening, saying it offered residents a "much more accessible venue in the heart of the city centre."
