Openai Testing Chatgpt-Powered Search Engine To Rival Google

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — OpenAI is currently testing a ChatGPT-powered search engine that could potentially challenge search giant Google and impact the flow of internet traffic for news and other timely information. The San Francisco-based company announced on Thursday that it is rolling out a preview of the SearchGPT feature to gather feedback from a select group of users and publishers.

In a move that shook the search engine landscape, Google introduced AI-generated written summaries in May, which now frequently appear at the top of search results. These summaries are designed to swiftly address a user's search query, reducing the need to click on a link and visit another website for additional information. Despite a year of testing with a limited user base, Google's transformation was not without flaws, underscoring the potential pitfalls of relying solely on AI chatbots for information retrieval.

OpenAI's strategic partner, Microsoft, is also experimenting with AI summaries on its Bing search engine, further intensifying the competition in the AI-powered search space.

It is worth noting that The Associated Press and OpenAI have a licensing and technology agreement in place, granting OpenAI access to a portion of AP's text archives.
