OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was celebrating the arrival of his first child when his baby announcement became the centre of a fierce online fight over surrogacy.

Altman and his partner, Oliver Mulherin, welcomed a baby boy in February 2025, with Altman sharing a photo of the newborn and writing, 'Welcome to the world, little guy!'
