Open enrollment puts millions of families in decision-making mode, and scammers know confusion and urgency can make people easier targets. Open enrollment scam texts can look surprisingly legitimate, mentioning lower premiums, unpaid balances, new insurance cards, or policy “verification.”

In September 2026, the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker documented an unsolicited text promoting new private PPO health coverage at lower rates and asking the recipient to respond for details. Before sharing a policy number, birth date, Social Security number, or payment information, families should independently verify who is contacting them.
