Only woman director in Venice Film Festival says industry remains unequal

May el-Toukhy, the only woman director selected for the top competition at the Venice Film Festival, highlighted the scarcity of women within the film industry at a press conference on Sunday, quipping that her film, "Woman Unknown" was itself "about the invisibility of women".

When Danish-Egyptian director May el-Toukhy was selected for the top competition at the Venice Film Festival in July, she was the only woman filmmaker in a 20-strong field – with a movie "about the invisibility of women".
