‘Only one’ of Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu predicted to return to Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have an important offseason in front of them. On the one hand, Arturas Karnisovas has made it clear that he wants to continue to compete with the current core. On the other, it seems clear that the current core isn’t a championship-caliber group, which means the Bulls won’t have a very high ceiling.

But if Karnisovas wants to compete, the Bulls will have to make some important additions this summer. One of their biggest positions of need is the point guard spot, and while they already have Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, Keith Smith of Spotrac believes only one of the two will be back in Chicago next season.

White played very well toward the end of the year, and Dosunmu has been a consistent face in Chicago’s rotation, but both could end up fighting for the same minutes on the roster.

“The other free agents are more of a mixed bag,” Smith wrote. “Coby White put together his most efficient season, but he looks like he might top out as a reserve combo guard. Ayo Dosunmu didn’t do enough to build on an encouraging rookie season, but he has shown that he can play. The guess here is that one is back, while the other one moves on.”

If Chicago wants to be a competitive team next year, they need a better presence at the point guard position. Whether that comes through trade, free agency, or internal development is left to be seen. However, it could mean that only one of their young guards gets opportunities in next year’s rotation.
