KOLKATA: Srutarshi Tripathi, a student of Patha Bhavan, is the only rank-holder from Kolkata. Overall, the result of 2020 was better for Kolkata than that of 2022, a section of city school principals say. A slight dip in overall performance has been noticed by some of the well-known city schools like Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, Sakhawat Memorial and Jodhpur Park Boys.
Srutarshi was always a bright student. He and his family members and school had expected a good result but the fourth rank was beyond their expectation. “I have worked hard so I expected to get a position on the merit list but ranking fourth was beyond my expectation. I have started my Plus II preparations and have taken admission in a CBSE school. My dream is to be a scientist and work at Nasa,” Srutarshi said.
Srutarshi’s father Subhankar Tripathi is the principal of Sarsuna College and his mother Mohua Tripathi is a homemaker. “My son is a bookworm. His only passion is to study. He loves to spend time with books rather than spending time chatting with friends. We haven't had television since his childhood as we felt that it would hamper his study,” said his mother Mohua Tripathi. At Patha Bhavan, 154 students passed with first division marks.
Out of 160 appeared from Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, 149 got first division and 11 students got B+. At Jodhpur Park Boys, 62 got first division marks out of 95 students. Headmaster Amit Sen Majumdar said: “Students could do fewer classes in offline mode, which has impacted their results.”
Ballygunge Siksha Sadan principal Sunita Sen said: “There is a slight dip in performance this year. Generally, we don’t have second division but this time, 11 students have passed with second division marks. I think students have lost their writing speed due to the pandemic.” The results were good in Jadavpur Vidyapith but students said they had expected better results.
At Hindu School, 103 passed in first division but the number of students securing second division has increased from 25 in 2020 to 29 this year.
