Onlookers horror as man hospitalised after vicious daylight city centre attack

Onlookers were left shocked in Dublin city centre on Bank Holiday Monday as a man was viciously assaulted by a gang in broad daylight.

The incident happened at a bus stop on Aston Quay when the man in his 30s was set upon by the gang. Footage seen by Dublin Live shows at least eight men surrounding him while he is being punched to the ground.

People standing at the bus stop can be seen rushing out of the way on the path as he is pushed against a wall. He is then kicked repeatedly as horrified onlookers shout at the group to leave him alone.

A number of people then rush over to try to help him before emergency services arrive to the scene. Dublin Live understands that Fire Brigade paramedics and gardai arrived to give him assistance and ask witnesses what happened during the attack.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardai in Pearse Street were alerted to an alleged assault that occurred on Aston Quay this afternoon Monday 5 June 2023 at approximately 3.30pm. A man, aged early 30s, was assaulted by a group of men and was attended to by emergency services. He was removed from the scene to St James's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigations ongoing."
