Online Safety Bill: Legislation to stop harmful social media content becomes law

After a long journey and much controversy, the Online Safety Act received royal assent in Parliament on Thursday (October 27), bringing the new rules into effect, with massive consequences for the ways people access online content.

The new legislation, more commonly known as the Online Safety Bill, requires social media firms to prevent and rapidly remove illegal content such as terrorism and revenge pornography.
