Onimusha: Way of the Sword Daidara Boss Guide: How to Protect Your Souls

The August 25 demo update for Onimusha: Way of the Sword expanded the playable areas and added Daidara, giving players one final chance to practice before the full game arrives on September 4, 2026.

Capcom moved the release date up from September 25 to September 4. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store.

Daidara's size is not the only challenge. Capcom describes the boss as a towering Genma with a huge appetite, and that appetite extends to the souls Musashi generates during combat.

The central lesson is simple: absorb souls before Daidara can consume them.

Where to Find Daidara

Daidara appears in the Oni Refuge, an otherworldly area Musashi reaches after his duel with Sasaki Ganryu at Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Capcom describes the Oni Refuge as a surreal landscape filled with floating islands, strange gravity and ruins that appear from thin air. This area was added with the August 25 demo update.

Players who tried the original version of the demo will find new content beyond the Ganryu encounter.

How Daidara's Soul Mechanic Works

The Daidara fight changes how players approach soul absorption.

Capcom says the boss can devour souls left on the battlefield, forcing Musashi to decide when to collect them. The basic loop is:

Combat generates souls → souls remain on the ground → Daidara can consume exposed souls.

Souls are important because they are used, together with discovered treasures, to upgrade equipment and unlock new abilities. Leaving them on the ground can therefore cost Musashi valuable resources.

This makes the encounter different from a standard action-game boss fight. Players cannot focus only on attacking. They must also watch the battlefield and collect souls whenever there is a safe opportunity.

Absorb Souls Before Extending Combos

When several souls appear, collecting them should take priority over squeezing in another attack.

A short attack sequence followed by a quick retreat is safer than committing to a long combo while souls remain exposed. If Daidara is recovering from an attack or creating distance, that moment can be used to absorb nearby souls.

Capcom has not published a fixed attack rotation or collection pattern for the encounter. The safest timing will depend on Daidara's movement and attack animations.

Use Defensive Moves to Create Openings

Defensive timing is especially important during this battle. PlayStation's hands-on report identifies the game's main defensive controls:

  • Dodge: Circle
  • Parry: L1
  • Deflect: Hold L1 and press X

A successful dodge, parry or deflect can give Musashi time to move toward nearby souls without taking unnecessary damage.

Issen remains one of the game's precision counters. The updated demo also includes Break Issen, which director Satoru Nihei says can be triggered after completely depleting an enemy's Stamina Gauge.

Dodging can also support offense. Capcom confirms that continuously dodging fills the Reflex Dodge gauge. Once the gauge is full, Musashi can unleash a powerful Reflex Combo.

Avoid Long Attack Strings

Daidara's size makes it tempting to stay close and attack repeatedly, but long animations can leave Musashi vulnerable.

Short, controlled attacks are more useful while learning the boss's patterns. They allow players to disengage quickly, monitor the arena and collect souls before Daidara reaches them.

Once Daidara's attack signals become familiar, players can gradually use longer combinations during safer openings.

When to Use Oni Strength

Oni Strength is Musashi's heavy Oni ability. Capcom describes it as a power that can break through enemy defenses with powerful blows.

The ability may be useful when Daidara's defenses prevent ordinary attacks from making progress. However, Capcom has not specified which of the boss's individual attack states are most vulnerable to Oni Strength.

The broader combat system favors deliberate attacks over constant strikes. Heavy blows used during clear openings are generally safer than repeated attacks without a plan.

What Happens When Daidara Eats Souls?

Capcom confirms that Daidara can consume Musashi's hard-earned souls. The company has not explained whether those souls can later be recovered or whether Daidara receives an additional combat benefit from consuming them.

The confirmed effect is that the mechanic creates pressure around soul collection. Players should treat nearby souls as temporary resources and absorb them before returning to offense.

Does Defeating Daidara Affect the Full Game?

Demo progress does not carry over to the full version.

However, Capcom confirms that carrying demo save data into the full game unlocks the "Kubi Akari" Charm and boosts Musashi's stats. The reward is tied to having qualifying demo save data, not specifically to defeating Daidara.

The updated demo is available now on the PlayStation Store.
