OnePlus takes the wraps off new budget-price Nord CE 2 5G smartphone with 90Hz display and 65w Supervooc charger

Global technology brand OnePlus officially launched the OnePlus Nord CE 2 – a new €349 device that features a 90 Hz AMOLED display, OxygenOS 11 and 5G support.

The firm said that CE stands for Core Experience and is really pushing the superfast charging in its marketing drive.

The launch comes just weeks after the company’s 2022 flagship device OnePlus 10 Pro went on sale in China. That phone has yet to be launched in Europe but indications are that it will be landing in March.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 features a flagship-standard 65W Supervooc fast charger that is actually manufactured by sister company OPPO.

The company said that it provides the phone’s 4,500 mAh dual-cell battery with up to a day’s power in just 15 minutes – twice as fast as the original OnePlus Nord CE.

You should be able to fully recharge the phone in less than 40 minutes.

The 65W Supervooc is a low voltage charge solution complete with eight onboard temperature sensors and an independent charging integrated circuit to ensure real-time monitoring of thermals within the phone when charging for additional safety and efficiency.

The device is TÜV Rheinland certified for safe fast charging, meaning it has gone through rigorous testing to ensure the device delivers a charging experience that meets OnePlus’ high standards.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 900 octa-core chipset which was built with a 6 nm architecture.

The design of the processor has been optimised for power efficiency that allows for improved thermal control, system stability and prolonged gaming sessions.

A 6.43 inch FHD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate should make everything from scrolling through social media feeds to gaming feel smoother, faster, and more responsive.

And the firm said this display is HDR10+ certified, allowing you to enjoy richer, deeper colours across supported platforms like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video.

Cameras

OnePlus Nord CE 2 boasts a triple camera system on the rear comprised of a 64MP primary wide angle sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens. There’s a 16MP selfie camera too.

The company said that the camera hardware combines with powerful AI software that delivers big improvements to Nightscape, Portrait Mode and video capture.

Nord CE 2 also allows you to record video with both its front and rear cameras simultaneously with Dual-View Video.

Design

The new handset comes in Gray Mirror and Bahama Blue colourways.

The former has a mirror-like finish with flashy overtones that looks like luxurious polished metal while the latter is smooth with a gradient finish that provides mesmerizing colour transitions of blue and yellow.

At just 7.8 mm thick, – Nord CE 2 is slimmer than its predecessor and is OnePlus’ slimmest smartphone since the OnePlus 6T.

The phone also features a 3.5 mm headphone jack, two SIM card slots and a microSD card slot that allows you to expand the storage up to 1 TB.

Software

OnePlus Nord CE 2 comes pre-installed with the most optimised version of OxygenOS 11 and the firm promises that OxygenOS 12 will be available as an update for the device in the second half of 2022.

The device will receive two years of Android version updates and three years of Android security patches.

“OnePlus Nord CE 2 enhances the essential features our community users value most at an accessible price point,” said Pete Lau of OnePlus.

Pricing and availability

OnePlus Nord CE 2 will go on sale in Ireland on March 10 at €349 for 128GB storage and 8GB RAM. Pre-orders start on March 3 at OnePlus.com.
