When the white of a 28-year-old man's right eye turned yellow, the obvious suspect was jaundice. But his liver tests were normal, and only one eye was affected. The real cause was lung cancer that had spread to the inside of his eye.
The case, published August 28, 2026, in Lung Cancer: Targets and Therapy, comes from doctors at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and The Royal Marsden in London. The authors found only one earlier report of cancer spread to this part of the eye, causing yellowing of a single eye. They described theirs as the first such case involving a lung cancer that had transformed into a different, more aggressive type.
