One person has been taken to hospital after emergency services attended a fire in Newport city centre. Gwent Police, ambulance and fire services attended Commercial Street, Newport after reports of a fire at about 7am on Thursday, March 16.
Pictures and video from the scene show damage to the building above the Mama T restaurant, near Gilligan's Island. Commercial Street remains closed between Kingsway junction and Gilligan's Island and diversions are in place. It is understood the road will be closed for several hours in order to make the building secure.
Ambulance services have confirmed one person has been taken to the Grange University Hospital after the incident. Their condition is not known.
