There's two types of people at Christmas. Those who like to do all the shopping weeks and months in advance, and those who leave things until the last minute.
I have been both in my life but am now firmly in the first category, however I do sympathise with those in the latter - life often gets in the way after all. The thought of leaving the turkey of all things until this late in the day fills me with dread but if you are one of those people who are perhaps less prepared for the big day then it can actually work out in your favour, with supermarkets slashing prices on turkeys before closing for Christmas.
However, predictably, some are completely sold out. So to try and save you a disappointing Christmas trip, I visited all of the big supermarkets this Christmas Eve to see what sort of deals you can get.
Aldi
I started here after reading that some turkeys were selling at an incredible 75pc on bargain-finding website 'Hot UK Deals' today. It looks like I left it a little too late though as the shelves had been completely raided by the time I arrived at 4pm.
Asda
Business as usual here. There were quite a few turkeys left but there was no discount on them, with a small bird costing anywhere in the region of £17 to £20.
Lidl
Over at the other big discount supermarket chain, full turkeys were sold out but there were still some turkey crowns available my nearest store (Farnworth) at 5pm. Even better, they were 30pc off so £15.19 for one that weighted 2.42kg.
Tesco
Completely out of luck here with no turkeys left on sale at the Farnworth store by the time I visited at around 5.15pm
Morrisons
No discounts at the Bolton supermarket but a bit of a last minute bargain to be had when compared to Lidl, with medium turkey crowns priced up between £11 and £13.
Sainsbury's
Last but not least (certainly in the price department) is Sainsbury's. Plenty of turkeys left in the Bolton store at around 5.30pm on Christmas Eve but you can be expected to pay more than £65 for one of the medium free range turkeys that are still sitting on the shelves.
