Three separate companies have now recalled finished grocery products because they were made with the same recalled jalapeño peppers, and a fourth federal action has extended the reach to ready-to-eat meat and poultry items. Together, the notices name more than a dozen retail chains, among them Albertsons, Hannaford, H-E-B, Kroger, RaceTrac, Randalls, Stop and Shop, Target, Tom Thumb, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Wawa, and Whole Foods.
The practical problem for shoppers is that none of these products look related. A shrimp salad at one chain, a taco dip at another, and a Southwest-style chicken salad at a third have nothing in common on the shelf. They share one supplier's peppers.
