A man who turned his life around after being convicted of manslaughter and meeting his victim's parents has spoken out about the process. Jacob Dunne was given a 30 month prison sentence after he delivered a single punch to a complete stranger in 2011 during an argument in Old Market Square, Nottingham.
The victim was James Hodgkinson, a 28 year old paramedic, who sadly died in hospital nine days later. Jacob was a former gang member from The Meadows, who was involved in drinking, drugs and violence.
Serving his sentence allowed him to end the cycle of violence and to go through the restorative justice process, where victims and perpetrators of crime can communicate to find a positive way forward. During this process Jacob met James' parents, Joan Scourfield and David Hodgkinson.
