One person has been taken to hospital after a collision which is understood to have involved multiple vehicles.
Emergency services were called to Leechmere Road in Hill View, Sunderland shortly before 8pm on Saturday following a crash. Reports on social media suggested at least five vehicles were involved in the collision before an ambulance crew responded to the scene.
A North East Ambulance service (NEAS) spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Leechmere Road, Sunderland at 7.50pm last night. We dispatched a clinical team leader and one ambulance crew, and transported one patient to the Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment."

No further details were released by NEAS. The Chronicle has contacted Northumbria Police for comment.
