One person taken to hospital after major crash closes road in Fenham

One person has been taken to hospital after a major crash in Fenham, Newcastle,

Emergency services attended the two-vehicle collision on Fenham Hall Drive just after 7am on Tuesday, which saw the road closed for a number of hours.

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has now confirmed that one person has been taken to hospital - though the extent of their injuries is as yet unknown.

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.17am to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Fenham Hall Drive. We sent four emergency ambulances and transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary."

The road was closed by police between Wingrove Road and Ponteland Road which brought traffic chaos for commuters across the morning.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 7.15am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Fenham Hall Drive, Newcastle. Emergency services are at the scene. The road is currently closed in both directions.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are currently in attendance of a two vehicle road traffic collision on Fenham Hall Drive in Newcastle.

"Our fire control received a call at 8.12am and crews from Newcastle Central Community Fire Station were in attendance in just six minutes."

The road reopened just before 11am.
