The Rise of Skywalker wasn't exactly warmly received upon its release, and that sense of ill will has only grown in the years since.
One of the enduring legacies from the ninth and final movie in Star Wars' Skywalker Saga was the proclamation from Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron that "Somehow, Palpatine returned."
At once, in an inexplicable retcon and shorthand for The Rise of Skywalker skipping over dramatic plot beats (including unveiling the Emperor's return in Fortnite, of all places), the line has lived long in the memory – for all the wrong reasons.
Now, Oscar Isaac has lifted the lid on the scene, revealing that it wasn't in the original script.
"Those were reshoots. We had to do reshoots… Those are like surgical strikes, scrambling, trying to get everything going," Isaac said on Happy Sad Confused. "That was a new addition at the end. There was a lot of movement and flux throughout that whole thing."
Isaac jokingly added, "I committed to the exasperation, that's for sure."
Despite the trip down memory lane, the sequels have been pushed to the wayside in a galaxy far, far away.
Just recently, a wave of new Spirit Jersey merch at Disney – which didn't feature Episodes 7-9 as options – was accused of "sequel erasure" by fans. The wait for the Daisy Ridley-starring Rey film goes on, while The Hunt for Ben Solo – from Steven Soderbergh, no less – was nixed by higher-ups at Disney.
