The property that was once part of the historic Appleton Hall Estate has gone up for sale.
Originally the gamekeeper’s cottage, the four bedroom detached house is one of the last remaining buildings of the Appleton Hall Estate. Named ‘The Lodge’ it offers a new owner the chance to acquire a unique home steeped in local history.
Found on Old Pewterspear Lane, Warrington, the home dates back more than 200 years and sits on around 0.7 acres of land. It’s listed for sale through Mark Antony Estates, for offers in excess of £900,000.

According to Rightmove, properties in Appleton had an overall average price of £411,790 over the last year. The majority of sales in Appleton during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £357,737.
Detached properties sold for an average of £619,647, with terraced properties fetching £258,532. Overall, sold prices in Appleton over the last year were 4% down on the previous year and 6% up on the 2018 peak of £390,072.
Similar sized homes are currently on the market for more than the average detached house price however. On Cann Lane South, just 0.3mile away is currently under offer after being listed for £975,000. While a newly built property is listed on Edenbridge Gardens, less than half a mile away, for £650,000.
Thomas Lyon built Appleton Hall in 1820, on land that had once belonged to the Warburtons of Arley. The Lyons family lived in the estate during the 1840s and 1850s. But at the end of the 19th century, only six remained in the Hall as others moved to cottages on the estate.
The Lyon family lived in Appleton Hall until 1931. In 1932, the then Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII, visited the estate when it was a Domestic Training Centre for 60 girls. It then became a Home Office Approved School.
Appleton Hall was eventually demolished in the mid-1960s. The site was transformed into a comprehensive school in 1968 and housing was later built on the land. Images of the home on Rightmove, show that it boasts its own private lake and extensive gardens. Offering plenty of seclusion, it's reached by a private lane, with gates that lead onto a large driveway.
It's filled with original features of the game keepers lodge dating back to the 1800s. An extension in the form of a conservatory has been built, that overlooks the lake.
And the main bedroom also offering a balcony overlooking the lake and "gorgeous gardens" along with a newly fitted en-suite and a walk in wardrobe and additional storage. As well as the main residence, there's also external space also boasts a large outbuilding over looking the lake.
There is also an additional outbuilding which was the original dog kennels and is now used for storage.
