Romance is in the air this Valentine’s Day, which means it’s the perfect time to cozy up with your loved one and play the latest psychological horror from the creators of Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II. The newest title from Tarsier Studios is Reanimal, a co-op horror adventure game in which a brother and sister search for their missing friends and for a way to escape a deadly island they once called home.
Reanimal drops on Feb. 13, which, alongside the fact that it’s Tarsier Studios’ first co-op title, inadvertently makes it the perfect game to play with a romantic partner this weekend. Like other popular co-op titles of recent years (Split Fiction, It Takes Two), Reanimal will allow two people to play with just one copy using Friend’s Pass.
What is Reanimal about?

Reanimal is the story of two children–a brother and sister–as they return to and explore their old island home, now infested by creatures that represent the past traumas they both experienced. The official description of the game mentions “the dark secret” that haunts the children as they travel, which means that the story will likely head into heavy territory.
The relationship between sister and brother as they return to their childhood home is the core focus of Reanimal. Cooperation and connection, through both the narrative and the co-op puzzles, are the main themes explored by the game, giving a glimmer of positivity in Reanimal’s repressive, dark atmosphere.
The last Tariser Studios game was Little Nightmares II in early 2021.
Tarsier Studios keeps the same visual style–small characters juxtaposed to large landscapes with a cinematic camera angle–that made Little Nightmares and its sequel so unique. Navigating the island is difficult, as players must rely on stealth and, occasionally, simply running away as fast as possible to escape hostiles. Anyone familiar with Tarsier Studios’ previous work will quickly understand the physics and puzzles presented in Reanimal.
What sets Reanimal apart on the surface level is its co-op focus, as players must work together to work through puzzles. While it’s always ideal to be joined by a player two (especially for Valentine’s Day), Reanimal provides an AI companion to fill the empty slot for solo players.
