'One of our own' - Liverpool transfer theory emerges as shock Chelsea Levi Colwill deal plotted

Liverpool supporters believe that Levi Colwill could be on his way to Anfield this summer. The 20-year-old defender has been heavily linked with an exit from Chelsea following his impressive loan spell at Brighton last season.

Colwill, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2025, featured 17 times for the Seagulls in the Premier League, helping Roberto De Zerbi's side keep five clean sheets. The England Under-21s international guided Brighton to a Europa League qualification spot ahead of Tottenham and, his parent club, Chelsea.

football.london understands that the west Londoners have been very impressed with his progress and he's expected to be a key player under Mauricio Pochettino. However, while he may not be for sale, Chelsea may find it difficult to hold onto Colwill with both Liverpool and Brighton chasing his signature.

It's said that the Seagulls have already seen two offers turned down by the Blues for the defender, who's expected to begin pre-season preparations with the Chelsea squad in the next couple of weeks. Upon his return to Cobham, football.london understands that Pochettino will sit down with Colwill and discuss his plans for the new season.

Despite the west Londoners being set on keeping the youngster, there is a lingering doubt over his future which will only be extinguished once he's had a chat with the former Tottenham boss. football.london understand that Jurgen Klopp's side are aware of this and they've made multiple enquiries about Colwill's availability.

In the meantime, fuel has been added to a transfer theory which is quickly building a head of steam. Speaking to Goal in 2021, the Chelsea defender revealed that he grew up idolising Steven Gerrard, and had posters of the midfielder on his bedroom wall.

While Colwill didn't explicitly admit to being a Liverpool fan at the time, an old image posted on social media has since all but confirmed supporters' suspicions. Last August, after making his Premier League debut with Brighton, the defender's former youth coach Lee Hudson shared a picture of him wearing a Reds shirt as a child.
