The Jammu & Kashmir Police on Friday said a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant has been killed and three Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants have been arrested in south Kashmir in two separate anti-militancy operations.
LeT’s Muneeb Ahmad Sheikh from Shopian’s Tak Mohalla was trapped inside a residential area during a midnight anti-militancy operation in Shopian’s Turkwangam area on Thursday.
“During the search operation, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the search party. In the ensuing encounter, the LeT terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the encounter site,” the police said.
The police said the deceased was a “categorised terrorist”. “Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including a Chinese pistol, one magazine and five rounds were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the police said.
The police asked locals to stay away from the encounter site “till it was completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosive materials”.
In another operation in south Kashmir’s Pulwama, security forces said they had busted a JeM terror module and arrested three “terrorist associates” in Pulwama.
They arrested were identified as Owais Altaf from Jandwal, Aqib Manzoor from Gudoora, and Waseem Ahmad Pandit from Karimabad in Pulwama.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested trio was involved in providing logistics and transportation to terrorists in the district. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including one AK rifle, three magazines, 69 AK rounds and a grenade were recovered on their disclosure,” the police said.
