Paramedics and police officers raced through the city centre on Wednesday evening following a fatal 'double stabbing' in Ancoats. As an air ambulance descended overhead and the roars of the Etihad stadium echoed in the distance, police officers were met with sinister scenes on an otherwise quiet Ancoats street.
At around 6.30pm police confirmed they had been called by paramedics to an incident that had broken out on Pollard Street, close to Manchester city centre. Tragically, one man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other male victim, also in his 20's, is now receiving treatment for leg injuries in hospital. A large cordon was immediately erected on Carruthers Street, as dozens of police vehicles and ambulances parked up outside the old Bank of England pub.

It was a sight that distressed local residents, who spoke of the chaotic scenes that quickly emerged following the stabbing. An air ambulance had landed close by, on a grassed area, as kitted-up paramedics sprinted to the scene of the crime and officers scurried to block off the area.
An evidence tent was erected and enquiries were made throughout the evening, with multiple forensic investigators also present. Police are now continuing to gather vital information from the surrounding area, and are appealing for more information from the public as investigations continue into the fatal incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Wes Knights, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "I send our condolences to the loved ones of the man who's sadly died and our well wishes to the man who's receiving treatment in hospital. Specially trained officers will be deployed to support them.
"We are in the early stages of our investigation but we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. Members of the public should expect to see extra officers in Ancoats over the coming days.
