A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Police in Scotland following a large brawl between Hibernian and Aberdeen FC fans in the Granite City.
Officers were called to Union Street in Aberdeen at around 1.30pm on Saturday May 13 following reports of a "disturbance". Footage shared on social media appears to show Hibs and Dons supporters scrapping in the street next to its junction with Market Street.
In the video, around 20 people are seen piling on top of one another outside Sports Direct on Union Street, as bystanders watch in horror. People are seen to exchange punches and kicks, as one shopper retreats back inside the sports superstore, reports The Daily Record.
Fans are heard chanting before the person filming moves to focus on a man in dark clothing being detained by cops. He is then lifted up by two policemen and escorted away.
Other fans are seen walking on the road in Market Street before the footage cuts out. Police Scotland says it is aware of the footage and are continuing to make enquiries into identifying the others responsible for violence.
Inspector Stuart Fisher said: “Police were quickly on scene and a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with this incident. Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries to identify and trace others involved in this disturbance.”
The arrest came around two hours before Aberdeen and Hibernian faced off in a tie that saw neither team score. Aberdeen remains in third place in the SPFL table, five points clear of Hibs' city rivals Hearts.
Ten fans were arrested in November last year the last time Hibs travelled to Aberdeen. Police were called to George Street to escort between 50 and 100 fans to Pittodrie following clashes between supporters.
Other arrests were later made at the stadium. Aberdeen went on to win the match 4-1.
