Tragedy struck early Sunday morning outside a bar in Indianapolis, resulting in one fatality and five individuals sustaining injuries, including an off-duty Indianapolis Metro police officer.
The incident occurred at a bar located at 9449 E. Washington St., where two off-duty Indianapolis Metro Police officers were providing security. Around 1:30 a.m., a disturbance in the parking lot escalated, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the officers and at least one suspect. This exchange resulted in one officer being shot.
Upon the arrival of first responders, immediate medical assistance was provided to the injured officer, who was subsequently transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Four additional individuals, identified as two 45-year-old men, a 42-year-old man, and a 33-year-old woman, were also found to have sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, another male victim arrived at Community East Hospital with a fatal gunshot wound.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the injuries sustained by the victims. A firearm was recovered at the scene by the police.
As the investigation continues, the two off-duty officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. Detectives are diligently working to piece together the events that transpired during the shooting.
