One in five households has planned to keep the heating off until December, according to a new survey. In an attempt to save cash during the cost of living crisis, 18% said they would leave the radiators cold until almost Christmas.
More than three-quarters of people - 78% -said they would layer up and wear warmer clothes rather than put on the heating. Over a fifth, or 22%, said switching their heating on would only happen on 'rare occasions', according to Nationwide Building Society.
More than nine in 10, a whopping 91% of people say they are even trying to switch on the lights less often.
