A supermarket worker who paid for an elderly man's shopping after he forgot his wallet has been described as "one in a million" by her co-workers.
Wendy Wilson, also known as 'Happy Wendy' by her Asda colleagues, had been working on the self-service tills when the man in his 70s became upset and distressed.
He was unable to get his card to work while trying to pay for his shopping at the Newtown Road store in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
The man who had left his wallet at home started to panic but selfless Wendy calmed him down and paid for his shopping out of her own back pocket.
The store has since offered to reimburse the Section Service leader, but she politely declined and had now been nominated for an internal award, CoventryLive reports.
Her proud colleagues said that it was "just one of many kind gestures" that Wendy has been responsible for.
"We are all so proud of her," they said.
"This lady is a one in a million.
"She is a fantastic role model towards her fellow colleagues who always comes in with a big smile on her face.
"She always goes out of her way to help everybody; we call her Happy Wendy."
The items came to around £10 and the regular customer was so grateful he returned to the store with a bunch of flowers to thank her.
Wendy who has been with the company for 22 years, has now been nominated for the Asda service superstar award following her kind gesture.
