One in 10 dog owners are breaking the law by not microchipping their pet, reveals new research from Direct Line Pet Insurance. While more than a third of UK households have a pooch, 10% of these canines have not yet been microchipped.
It has been a legal requirement for dogs to be microchipped since 2016, and failing to do so could result in a fine for owners of up to £500. Just last month, a man was hit with a £219 fine from Wiltshire Council after not registering a microchip for his pet dog, despite being sent repeated reminders asking him to do so.
