An Edinburgh Zoo koala has sadly died after suffering a number of 'chronic' health problems.
The RZSS announced the news on Monday (May 2) that 17-year-old Goonaroo, one of their Queensland koalas, had passed away in their care.
Described as a "real character" by staff at the Edinburgh attraction, Goonaroo had been living at the zoo for a number of years, and had been experiencing different health issues.

In December 2021, the male koala had undergone a procedure to remove his right eye, however ongoing issues in his left had "not responded to treatment."
Paying tribute to Goonaroo on social media, the zoo said:
"At 17 years old, Goonaroo had been experiencing age-related health problems.

"While he recovered well from an operation to remove his right eye in December, he still had chronic problems with his remaining eye and was not responding to treatment.
"Our dedicated vets and keepers reviewed his overall wellbeing and quality of life and advised he should be put to sleep.
"Goonaroo was a real character who fathered three joeys as part of the international species breeding programme. He will be missed by everyone here at the zoo and our thoughts are with all those who cared for him."
