One Europe, one market’ and ‘buy European’ push to boost competitiveness

Europe is taking a fresh look at its economic policies, aiming to become more competitive and reduce bureaucracy.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is pushing for “One Europe. One Market,” hoping to complete the single market and bring member states’ economic efforts together. Economists Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi warned that fragmentation and underinvestment could hold back growth. EU leaders want to cut bureaucracy, lower energy costs, and encourage private investment to strengthen European industry.

France backed “Buy European” strategies, while Germany and the Netherlands worried about protectionism. Council President António Costa highlighted the need for investment and said the European Commission will present a strategic plan in March to guide Europe’s economy until 2027.
