One Direction ‘reunite’ seven years after splitting up – but two huge stars are missing

One Direction has had a mini-reunion - but two of its stars were missing, according to reports.

The record-breaking boy band called it quits seven years ago after shooting to fame on the X-Factor.

Since the break-up, Harry Styles, 29, and Zayn Malik, 30, went on to shift millions of records, but they weren't in the studio recently when Liam Payne, 29, Louis Tomlinson, 31, Niall Horan, 29, and got together.

Louis and Niall are said to have "jumped on a track" with Liam, who is currently working on his second album.

A source said: “Liam is great pals with Niall and Louis, so loved catching up with them while they were all in LA. Being in the studio together felt natural, so they all jumped on a track.

“It was second nature to them singing together and felt like old times. They had a right laugh.

“Producers are hoping Liam includes it on his finished album, fans will love it," reports The Sun.

The Mirror has contacted Liam's reps for comment.

Fans were left devastated in 2015 when Zayn left One Direction, saying he 'had to do what feels right in his heart'.

In a statement, he said: "I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."

A year later fans went into meltdown when it was revealed One Direction were set to split.

Teenagers were inconsolable after the news broke and many took to Twitter to let the world know exactly how they were feeling after yet another bombshell.

One posted: "WE NEED OUR OWN SHOW CALLED "KEEPING UP WITH THE DIRECTIONERS" BC WE GO THROUGH MORE DRAMA THAN KARDASHIANS TBH."

However, fans were recently given a sign the boys may be planning to get the band back together - as they have set up a group chat between them.

Liam revealed fans might see the five-piece back in action in the future, telling the Sun on Sunday, the fact they had a WhatsApp group was "something".

Each of the 1D boys has released solo music in the years since they drifted from the group - with Bradford-born Zayn releasing three albums, the first of which topped the charts in the UK and USA.

Niall has released two albums, with a third due in June this year - while Louis has released two.

Harry has released three albums, two of which reached number one while his second album came in at number two.
