Louis Tomlinson delighted One Direction fans after telling Lorraine Kelly that a reunion will happen "one day". The 30-year-old popstar appeared on the ITV breakfast show to discuss his new album, and Lorraine couldn't help but ask the question on everyone's mind.
Speculation about a reunion between the group - which was formed on X Factor and consisted of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan - has been rife over the years.
Rumours of a reunion recently spiked after Zayn, who left the band in 2015 to pursue a solo career, recently uploaded a video singing One Direction hit Night Changes. Fans went into a frenzy after the 29-year-old star shared a video the a capella tune on Instagram.
After Lorraine, 62, asked the all important question, Louis said: “One day. There’s a lot of moving parts, but it would be a shame if we didn’t. It would be a shame if we didn’t.” Lorraine went onto suggest they all come together for a really big event and Louis said: “I hope so”.
The dad of six-year-old Freddie also touched on the incredible One Direction phenomenon, saying: “It’s easier to see now from the outside looking in, definitely. It was a crazy, crazy time. Amazing to be able to go through it with other people, it would have been quite scary to go through that experience on your own at that age.”
Lois then went on to discuss his upcoming second studio album and how it differs to his debut. He told the Scots broadcaster: “It was a bit of a process on my first record - there was an element of trial and error. Obviously coming out of a band the size of One Direction, it takes time to find yourself, musically, but I really think I’ve found it on this album and this single.”
Lorraine added that it’s an optimistic record and Louis replied: “That was a conscious decision. On my first record, there was a weight to it emotionally which I think was right for the time but I just wanted to break loose from that now and be optimistic.”
Lorraine continued: “That’s where you are in yourself,” and Louis replied: “Exactly,” saying he had the chance to “declutter his brain” during the coronavirus lockdown. He said: “Everyone’s experience is individual. For myself, I spend a lot of my life thinking about what the next thing is. And there’s always an element of pressure in my life, which I’m used to.
“What was great about that time was it gave me a chance to declutter my brain and really think about the next record, and what do I want it to sound and feel like? If I didn’t have that time to reset, it may well have been a different record, so I feel happy to have that time.”
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
