A man has been killed and two more have been critically injured during a “random” stabbing in Sydney’s west on Tuesday morning.
According to NSW Police, emergency services were called to Merrylands Road in Sydney’s west following reports of a stabbing at about 10am.
On arrival, the police were told a man had stabbed multiple people before fleeing the area on foot.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated three people for serious injuries at the scene. Tragically, one person died at the scene, and two more have been taken to hospital in critical condition.
The deceased is yet to be formally identified. However, 9News reports that the two other victims are believed to be a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s.

Superintendent Simon Glasser confirmed to 9News that the three victims are not believed to be known to one another and that authorities are treating the attack as “random”.
“It’s a horrible offence to have taken place in Merrylands just prior to lunch time — there were lots of people around,” Glasser said, per the publication.
“It was obviously very confronting for anyone who was in the area.”
The suspect was arrested on Smythe Street, Merrylands, and has since been taken to Granville Police Station.
He will face court later today.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Cumberland Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
