One dead following house fire in Kerry on St Stephen's Day

One person has died following a house fire in Co Kerry on St Stephen's Day.

The fire broke out in the early hours of this morning, December 26, at a house in Glenflesk, a small village outside Killarney.

Firefighters were called to the scene to fight the blaze, which was eventually extinguished.

A body was recovered from the house and is believed to be a local man aged in his 60s, according to RTE News. The coroner has been notified and post mortem on the body is due to take place.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a house fire in Glenflesk Co. Killarney. The fire occurred in the early hours of this morning, Monday, 26th December 2022.

"The fire has been extinguished by local fire services.

"The body of a person has been recovered from the premises. The body remains at the scene and the coroner has been notified. A post mortem will direct the further course of any investigation.

"No other injuries have been reported. A technical investigation of the scene will be conducted. Enquiries are ongoing."
