One day this week could see temperatures of 27C as Bank Holiday scorcher on the way

One day this week could see highs of 27C in one part of the country, as the June Bank Holiday is set to bring scorching temperatures.

Weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather revealed that a weather station in one county is forecasting a high of 27C for Friday, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far, with Roscommon recording the hottest day at 23.3C last Saturday.

So far, temperatures have been higher in the west of the country, topping out at 23C, while the east coast has been cooler thanks to an easterly breeze. This Tuesday will see a high of 23C in the west, while the east will see temperatures of around 18C.

Wednesday and Thursday will see highs of 24C in the west and slightly cooler along coastal regions, at 17C.

Of Friday, Mr O'Reilly stated: "High pressure staying in control for the next week at least and latest charts show up to 27C possible Friday with Shannon Airport station the one to watch. No sign of any real rain."

The weather expert also reminded the public to take out the sun cream today as temperatures could hit 25C in the west.

Met Éireann's forecast for the June Bank Holiday weekend shows little change to the scorching hot conditions.

A spokesperson said: "Little change is expected for the Bank Holiday weekend with high pressure positioned near Ireland bringing largely dry and settled weather. There will be lots of sunshine and just a little patchy cloud.

"Afternoon highs will generally range from 18 to 24 degrees, warmest in the west. Irish Sea coastal areas will be cooler at times due to onshore breezes."
