One clause in Dele Alli's deal may see Tottenham benefit if Spurs man secures Everton transfer

Tottenham could benefit financially from allowing Dele Alli to join Everton in the coming hours on an initial free transfer.

The 25-year-old, who has fallen way down the pecking order under Antonio Conte, now looks set to end his recent nightmare at Spurs, with the Toffees said to be close to securing the signing of the former England international.

However, Newcastle United have reportedly entered the race to try and sign Alli on a loan deal until the end of the season, but they face a real race against the clock in the final few hours of the January transfer window.

There is talk that any deal that would see Alli move to Goodison Park, to play under newly-appointed Everton manager Frank Lampard, would be on a free transfer, initially, but could eventually rise depending on add-ons.

But Spurs can possibly benefit from this - if it does indeed get over the line.

As per the Daily Star, there is a clause in Alli's contract that will see his former club MK Dons receive a 20 per cent sell-on fee after agreeing to the deal seven years ago.

Some reports are suggesting that the deal could eventually be as high as £30millions, depending on add-ons, but with no initial transfer fee, this could benefit Spurs owner Daniel Levy because of the way it has been structured, with a possible £6m about to be saved.

What's been said on Alli?

Former Everton defender Phil Jagielka has backed Alli to move to Goodison Park and spoke about what Lampard sees in the Tottenham midfielder.

"I think he sees in him what everyone sees in him," Jagielka told Sky Sports News. "Everyone is wanted Dele to produce the form he was producing three or four years ago.

"Bright young prospect at Spurs, played week in, week out, played for his country, scoring goals. He was almost unplayable at times. But unfortunately, for one reason or another, he hasn't played the way he will have wanted to over the past couple of seasons.

"What better manager could he actually hope for? (Lampard) is someone who has played a very similar role in a team, a goalscoring midfielder, that is what Dele Alli is.

"I am sure the talks were pretty quick and easy and I am sure Dele will be looking forward to getting started on Merseyside and starting his Everton career."
