One person has been taken to hospital following a crash on the A19 near Testo's roundabout this morning.
Police were called just before 7am to a two-vehicle collision on the A19 northbound at the junction with Hedworth Lane in Jarrow. Parademics arrived on the scene at around 7.24am and took one person to South Tyneside Hospital by ambulance.
A section of the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident which caused heavy traffic in the area.

Tailbacks stretched two miles along the A184 Testos flyover back towards the A1290 Downhill Lane junction, however, the road has now reopened.
A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 7.24 this morning to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 northbound, close to Testo's roundabout. We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to South Tyneside Hospital."
