One bulldog, two surgeries, 192 days in rescue - and 'hardly any applications'

A bulldog who has spent the whole of 2022 in rescue has received ‘hardly any applications’. Now, Manchester Dogs’ Home are hoping to find him a ‘fun loving family’ where he can enjoy life to the fullest.

Scar is five years and 10 months old, and has been in the care of the rescue centre for 192 days. He arrived in January as a stray, and it’s safe to say that he hasn’t had the easiest time.

When the bouncy bulldog cross first arrived, it became evident to staff that he was displaying signs of lameness in one leg. After further investigations by the vet team, they discovered he was suffering from cruciate ligament damage.

A spokesperson for the Dogs Home said: “Despite experiencing pain, Scar continued to display a happy and playful nature, always keen to say hello to everyone he met and always appreciated a fuss. But the damage was taking a toll on his mood and he was starting to feel a little down when having to spend so much time resting in his kennel.”

In time, Scar received the surgery he so desperately needed, at the same time, he had his ‘cherry eye’ corrected, which was also causing a great deal of discomfort.

The rescue centre added: “It’s safe to say Scar has been through a bit of a tough time but he’s tried his best to take it all in his stride. He has been on plenty of bed rest since his surgery and has recently begun short walks which he has loved and has responded well to.”

Scar is described as a ‘friendly, cheerful chap’ looking for a ‘fun loving family’ who he can share leisurely walks with throughout the day and spend his evenings relaxing, curled up on the sofa.

“Scar does like other dogs, and has gotten on well with many of the dogs here,” the team added. “At times, he is a little too much for them when he gets excited therefore it’s best he is the only dog in the household.

“Scar is always eager to meet new people and adores attention but can get a little giddy at times, so he’s looking for a home with older children aged over 14 years.”

If you feel you can offer Scar his happily ever after, please visit www.dogshome.net and fill in an application form.
